Phonak EON hearing aids: what is new?

You are sitting with friends. Someone across the table is speaking, while conversations, music and clinking glasses surround you. Moments like these show how much effort listening can take. The new Phonak EON hearing aids focus on speech in different listening situations, wireless connections and everyday use.

What is new, and which chargers, domes and listening accessories fit? Here are the differences between Audéo EON R, Audéo EON Sphere and CROS EON R, so you know what to ask your hearing care professional.

Which Phonak EON hearing aids are available?

Audéo EON R: rechargeable with automatic adjustment

Audéo EON R is a rechargeable hearing aid worn behind the ear. A thin wire connects it to the receiver in your ear canal. This design is also called RIC.

AutoSense OS AI 8.0 recognises different sound environments and adjusts processing accordingly, for example when moving from a quiet conversation at home to a busier setting. Your experience also depends on your hearing loss, the version chosen and your professional fitting.

Audéo EON Sphere: additional speech processing in noise

Audéo EON Sphere adds the HYPERSONIC chip and Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0. The technology uses AI to distinguish and process speech separately from background noise. This is particularly relevant if you often talk in places where several people speak at once.

Sphere also has AutoSense OS AI 8.0. The extra speech processing distinguishes it from EON R; it cannot be attributed to every EON model. Include your difficult situations in a trial fitting, such as dinner out or a work meeting.

CROS EON R: sound from the poorer-hearing side

If one ear has no usable hearing, a CROS solution may be an option. CROS EON R picks up sound on that side and sends it to a suitable Audéo EON R hearing aid on the better-hearing side. Speech from your poorer-hearing side can then reach that ear.

CROS does not restore hearing to the affected ear. Your hearing care professional assesses suitability. Phonak specifies CROS EON R with Audéo EON R; do not assume the same pairing with EON Sphere.

More comfortable cycling with less wind noise

Enjoy cycling, but find wind around your hearing aids distracting? The EON series has improved wind-noise reduction: WindBlock 2.0. It recognises wind noise and reduces the rumbling, while speech and other sounds come through more naturally than with the previous generation. This can make cycling and walking in the wind more comfortable.

It does not remove all wind. The effect depends on the wind, your chosen version and the settings. Tell your hearing care professional that you cycle regularly and try the settings outdoors too.

Bluetooth and Auracast: what do they offer?

Audéo EON R and EON Sphere support Bluetooth connections with suitable phones and other devices, for example for calls and music through your hearing aids. Check your phone model and myPhonak app support: not every combination offers the same functions.

Auracast is another addition. A suitable source can broadcast audio to multiple listeners. At a venue offering Auracast, a supported myPhonak function lets you select a broadcast, for example using a QR code.

This does not mean every television, cinema or hall can be received straight away. The venue or source must support the broadcast. Ask about the available equipment and have the connection with your phone explained.

Charging: choose the right EON charger

For everyday use, allow for around 22 hours on a full charge. Phonak also gives an EON Sphere example of up to 22 hours with extensive streaming and regular use of extra speech processing in noise. That is a more practical starting point than the maximum of 38 hours alone. Actual runtime depends on the model, settings, hearing loss, surroundings, streaming and battery condition. Different battery figures apply to CROS EON R.

Our shop has two suitable chargers:

    • Phonak Charger RIC E: a mains-powered charger for home use, without a built-in power bank.
    • Phonak ChargerGo RIC I E: with an integrated battery, offering up to three complete charging cycles on the go when the charger is fully charged.

Both are intended for Audéo EON R, Audéo EON Sphere and CROS EON R. Phonak states that a full charge takes around 2.5 hours. Always check the complete model name: an older Phonak charger is not automatically suitable. Hearing aids are not included with these chargers.

    EasyGuard domes and everyday care

You may encounter EasyGuard domes with the EON series. Their membrane helps protect the receiver from earwax while allowing sound through. Versions include Open, Vented and Power.

One example from our shop is the Phonak EasyGuard Dome Open. Choose it only when the type, size and connection match your professional fitting. A different dome can change fit and sound; it is not just a comfort choice.

Gently wipe the dome with a soft, dry cloth, as Phonak recommends. EasyGuard makes care easier but does not replace daily checks. Ask your hearing care professional to demonstrate when and how to replace the dome safely on your device.

Television and conversations at a distance

Want to watch television without increasing the volume for others? The Phonak TV Connector sends sound from a suitably connected television to compatible hearing aids. The Audéo EON R manual mentions this connection. Check your television's audio output and have compatibility confirmed for your hearing aids.

An external microphone can be useful for a distant speaker, a meeting or a conversation with substantial background noise. The Phonak Roger On V3 listening microphone picks up sound closer to the speaker and sends it to a suitable Roger system.

RogerDirect requires the necessary Roger receivers to be installed in the hearing aids. Ask your hearing care professional whether this has already been done for your EON devices. Bluetooth pairing alone is not enough.

Which EON model suits your daily life?

A technical comparison cannot tell you how you will experience a conversation. Discuss your listening situations: group work, busy restaurants, or mainly comfortable calls and television? Take your phone and any existing accessories to the appointment.

    • Ask which functions your chosen version includes.
    • Try the fit with your glasses and check how the device sits behind your ear.
    • Have Bluetooth, the app and, where relevant, Auracast set up together.
    • Check which charger and care parts belong with your set.

Before ordering accessories, check the exact model and your dome or receiver. The right combination helps avoid buying a charger or part that does not fit your EON hearing aids.

Frequently asked questions about Phonak EON

Is every EON hearing aid a Sphere?

No. Audéo EON R and Audéo EON Sphere are different models. The HYPERSONIC chip with Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 belongs to EON Sphere.

Can I keep using my existing Phonak charger?

That depends on its exact type. Charger RIC E and ChargerGo RIC I E are the EON chargers described here. Check the model name on your current charger before using it.

Do I still need a TV Connector with Auracast?

That depends on your television and the available broadcast. Auracast needs a suitable source. A TV Connector can be a solution when your television does not offer that option, provided its connections and your hearing aids are suitable.
